Kaleidoscopes

Fantasy Visions

An amazing boxed set "Fantasy Visions" by artists Paul and Susan Knox. The box is constructed of birds-eye and spalted maple. The kaleidoscope body is constructed with a magnetic ring which holds one of the four interchangable object chambers. Each oil-filled chamber contains objects picked out by Susan so that the colors are vibrant and blend together for a spectacular look to each chamber. The box itself in lined on the inside bottom with red felt, has a cradle for the kaleidoscope and three small pedestals for the extra object chambers.

This is from my personal collection and lists for $1495 if you can find one on the market. Paul and Susan are no longer making kaleidoscopes (to my knowledge) and these are becoming rare and hard to find.

David York kaleidoscope

This is the first scope I purchased for my personal collection. It is a unique David York stained glass and hand-made marble kaleidoscope. David made a number of these scopes during his career, but this one arrived at La Casida de Kaleidoscopes in New Mexico in the mid 90's with a crack across one of the side panels. The owner of La Casita created and applied a unique copper foil piece to cover up the crack rather that sending it back - thus a one of a kind David York scope. David was an avid amateur astronomer and often inscribed his mirrors with a small cresent moon and a star which repeated themselves up the mirrors as you viewed the image through the large viewing port. The marbles can be easily replaced for different colored looks. Price is $200.

Marc Trickle stained glass kaleidoscope

This is a great Marc Trickle stained glass kaleidoscope "Pedestal #21 of 50). Spectacular 3 deminsional image when viewed from the huge viewing port on the back of the scope. It is a more standard view when looking through the smaller second port on the top of the scope. $295

This amazing kaleidoscope by Monica and Ulrich Karl from Germany is one of their Jules Verne series (number 40-11) It has an amazing metal bodywith two wheels that are turned by a gear an o-ring device. It has a large viewing port and has a small metal eye on top so that it can be hung from the ceiling or from a floor stand. One wheel is colored glass which forms the background view. The other wheel has bits of various glass, beads, and different colored agate slices. The metal body was heated and the resulting colors swirl and blend together. $695

David York parlor scope

Another kaleidoscope from my personal collection. This is a vintage (1990's) David York parlor scope. This is a large York about 17 inches long. It has two large 5 inch wheels on one end and a large viewing port on the other. The wheels contain bits of glass, shells, and what looks like marbles which were heated until they melted down flat. David is another artist that quit making scopes when he had to return to the regular work schedule that many of us encounter a few years ago. $695
